This is a commentary on Genesis 12-17; Abraham 1-2–the text for Lesson 7 “To Be a Greater Follower of Righteousness” in the Come, Follow Me for Individuals and Families manual for 2022.

This chapter will really conclude our study of the Pearl of Great Price (I said that prematurely last week). We will go into the call and early life of Abraham. We shall look at his childhood and early manhood as described in Abraham. I will say a bit about the facsimiles. We will orient Abraham in Mesopotamia, Canaan, and Egypt and write a bit about how his story fits into those ancient cultures. We shall follow him, Sarai, Lot, and others into Canaan. We shall see Lot tested, rescued, and left in Sodom for a time. We shall meet Melchizedek and talk about about his priesthood and the patriarchal order. We will have a look at the covenant between God and Abraham and see what it might mean to be children of Abraham, following in the covenant path which he first traced. We will meet Hagar, Abraham’s second wife and discuss Ishmael and his role in the covenant. We will see why the world is run by C students. We will end this portion of Abraham’s story with the covenant of circumcision. pp. 47.
