Description

This is a commentary on Isaiah 58-66—the text for Lesson 41, “The Redeemer Shall Come to Zion”, in the Come, Follow Me for Individuals and Families manual for 2022. This lesson concludes the five lessons on the book of Isaiah. In these concluding chapters the establishment of Zion, the second coming of Christ, and the millennial reign of the Saviour are described. The role of fasting and Sabbath observance in the sanctification of the individual and the society are highlighted. The study of Isaiah is perhaps the greatest help we have in scripture for understanding the endowment and the symbolic language used by the Lord to instruct us in temple ordinances. These chapters have a great bearing on the temple ordinances as we have them in the Restoration. I don’t think that the Saviour’s instruction to us to study Isaiah, and the large dose of Isaiah in the Book of Mormon is an accident. I think those tools and commands were given to a people who would build, serve, and worship in the greatest number of temples ever seen on earth. Whether we will take the offered route to a better understanding of the temple through pondering Isaiah is an open question for each of us. pp.147.
