This is a commentary on Genesis 24-27—the text for Lesson 9, “The Covenant is Renewed” in the Come, Follow Me for Individuals and Families manual for 2022. In this lesson we will look at marriage in the covenant and the carryover into temple sealings today. We shall meet Rebekah and see one of the clearest examples of the key role that women play in the eternal covenants that bind us together. We will meet Esau and Jacob and the conflict between them—ol’ Red and Smoothy. We will ponder the deception practiced on Isaac and glance at trickster cultures. The lesson will end with fratricidal death threats and Jacob ready to flee—a cliff hanger. pp. 35.
