Description

This is a commentary on the book of Esther—the text for Lesson 31 “Thou Art Come…For Such a Time as This” in the Come, Follow Me for Individuals and Families manual for 2022. It is to be studied from July 25-31, 2022.

In last week’s lesson we considered God’s dealings through the actions of three men in restoring the temple, the Jewish people, and the proper worship in the promised land. Only a minority of Jews chose to return to Judæa. Most stayed in the lands to which they had been scattered. In Esther and later in Daniel we shall look closely at some who stayed in the Persian Empire’s heartland and made a difference there.
The book of Esther recounts the greatest threat to the survival of the Jews since the plans for Hebrew genocide in Egypt at the time of Moses’ birth. It also tells how that threat was averted without the loss of a single Jewish life. It was done by the actions of a woman, and those who supported her, taking the initiative and acting to bring justice to pass.  Parallels to our day will be drawn.
