Description
This is a commentary on the book of Ephesians, the text for Lesson 40 in the Come, Follow Me for Individuals and Families manual for 2023. Ephesians was one of the later writings of Paul. It was most likely written about AD 60 during the final years of Paul’s life when he was under house arrest in Rome. The epistle to the Ephesians is one of the great masterpieces of Christian thought and doctrine. It appears to be a summary and further development of Paul’s teachings on Christ and the Church. Unlike most other epistles, it was not written to address a problem or a series of problems in a particular branch of the Church. It was written to deepen Christians’ understanding of the relationship between Christ and the Church and to mark out their path to sanctification. It also explained perhaps better than any other New Testament scripture the role and function of the Church on earth and beyond this realm in which we now live. It also has one of the best explanations of marriage relationships and how the laws of chastity and consecration are linked and complementary in a sacramental marriage. It has much that explains the temple ordinances. It is certainly a product of a mature, thoughtful, and older Paul.
